Following a remarkable 22-year tenure at APRA AMCOS, our colleague and electronic music and technology specialist Frank Rodi is moving on to new challenges.
Frank came to APRA AMCOS in 2000, already an established name in the music and media industries having worked for both our national broadcasters, the ABC and SBS, including as a presenter, producer and music director for SBS program Alchemy.
He stepped into the Senior Online Licensing Manager role and hit the ground running during a period which saw massive technological change. Frank’s role was at the heart of our response to file sharing and then developing and implementing new licence agreements for legal online services such as Apple’s iTunes, YouTube and Spotify.
Frank’s passion for supporting our members then took him to the Writer Services department as Deputy Director in 2014, and in 2016 he took on the newly-created Innovation Lead & Electronic Music Specialist role.
Here Frank ensured that APRA AMCOS kept abreast of technical innovations to develop revenue and service strategies. With his love of the genre, he also became our electronic music writer specialist supporting and connecting with the genre’s members and developed the crucial role of the Contemporary Music Advisory Group.
Frank was integral to expanding our use of music recognition technology in nightclubs, notably with a world-first arrangement with Pioneer’s Kuvo platform – to enable for more accurate distributions of royalties to songwriters and artists alike.
Frank takes with him a world of experience and deep knowledge of the pressing issues facing songwriters and artists most especially in the electronic music field and more generally in the digital space.
