Alyelhentye Nawu is a specialised team within APRA AMCOS dedicated to managing the Indigenous Cultural Intellectual Property Rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander music creators. Our responsibilities span from work registrations to licensing and royalty distribution. Our mission is to ensure that the Intellectual Property and Indigenous Cultural Intellectual Property Rights of our members and music creators are understood, valued, and advocated for.

Purpose
We provide a service that manages music rights at the intersection of commerce and culture. We are dedicated to acting in the best interests of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander members, safeguarding their Cultural and Intellectual Property Rights, and promoting the benefits of a multilingual music industry.
Goals
- Acknowledge Ownership: Develop systems that acknowledge communal ownership and apply correct attributions to legacy works.
- Advocate for Music Rights: Act in the best interests of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander members to ensure their Intellectual Property and Indigenous Cultural Intellectual Property Rights are valued and protected.
- Quality Member Services: Provide dedicated, quality member services with a high satisfaction rate.
- Promote Languages and Build Capacity: Promote the importance of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander languages by launching creative programs and advocacy initiatives. Build the capacity of artists composing new music in their cultural languages.
- Increase Financial Returns: Increase financial returns to members by developing licencing and distribution practices that best suit the needs of cultural music creators.
- Facilitate Dialogue: Guide and facilitate meaningful opportunities for fair, open dialogue between cultural creators, publishers, licencee’s and the music industry.
- Lead by Example: Develop and implement new internal policies to enhance cultural intelligence within APRA AMCOS.
