Applications are now open for the APRA 2027 Board Observership Program.  
 
The Observership Program offers an opportunity to participate in a 12-month program to build experience and confidence in serving on a Board. 
 
APRA AMCOS is offering two exciting opportunities through our 2027 Board Observership Program: 

• One position is dedicated to an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander APRA writer member.
• The second position is open to an APRA writer member from another underrepresented community that has had limited access to leadership opportunities. 

Both participants will engage in a 12-month program designed to build experience and confidence in serving on a Board.
 

If selected as an APRA Board Observer, you will:

• Participate in high-quality, accredited board director training delivered by leading organisations including the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) and The Ethics Centre, through The Observership Program, while building valuable connections with a diverse network of professionals across the not-for-profit and corporate sectors.  For more information about the program, please refer to the 2026 Program Handbook. The 2027 handbook will be provided to successful applicants. 
   
• Join the APRA Board as an Observer for Board meetings held in 2027, consisting of 5 board meetings and 2 strategic planning days across the year. 
   
• Work with an experienced APRA Director as your Board Buddy, meeting before and after each Board meeting for guidance and learning.
• Learn how the APRA Board operates and makes decisions on behalf of music creator and publisher members.
• Receive support from the dedicated APRA AMCOS team throughout the year. 

This is a hands-on, rewarding way to grow your professional skills. 

This is the fourth year that APRA AMCOS has run this program. 

Why APRA AMCOS is offering this

Our vision is to enable self-determination for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander APRA writer members and APRA writer members from underrepresented communities that have historically faced systemic barriers in the music industry. 
 
We aim to broaden opportunities and pathways, helping successful candidates gain governance skills and build networks to confidently pursue board and senior management positions in the music industry and beyond. This initiative also supports greater diversity and inclusion at the governance level within APRA AMCOS.
