IMPF and IMPEL Joint AI statement

The independent publisher sector sets out clear principles for a fair, transparent and sustainable approach to generative AI licensing.

APRA AMCOS endorses independent music publishing bodies IMPF and IMPEL’s joint framework that calls for generative AI licensing that properly values songs, embeds transparency throughout the licensing process, and supports innovation through clear terms, fair economics, robust reporting and rightsholder oversight.

As independent music publishing leaders gather in Spain this week for The Palma Summit, with APRA AMCOS CEO and CISAC Board Chair Dean Ormston delivering a keynote address, the framework lays out clear, actionable principles.

“The IMPF and IMPEL framework provide a clear path forward: creators’ rights must be recognised, licensing must be transparent and consent-based, and songwriters and publishers must share fairly in the value their work creates.

APRA AMCOS joins with IMPEL and IMPF to urge all parties to work with independent publishers, songwriters and their CMOs to build a licensing framework that recognises the true value of the song and creates a fair, sustainable market for the future.” said Ormston.
