Alex Hope & Troye Sivan join the 1,000,000,000 List for Troye’s track ‘Youth’.

Youth appeared on Troye’s debut album Blue Neighbourhood, and reached #1 on the Billboard Dance Club Song charts

Pop music sensation Troye Sivan and in-demand songwriter and producer Alex Hope were honoured recently at our Sydney headquarters for their respective places on The 1,000,000,000 List, for their 2015 worldwide hit single ‘Youth.’ Chief Executive Dean Ormston presented the awards to Troye and Alex in recognition of more than one billion streams for the song.

The song was the first single off of Troye's debut album Blue Neighbourhood, and upon its release in November 2015 made an immediate impact. Just weeks after release, Troye made his first US TV appearance when he performed ‘Youth’ on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.

It was upwards from there for the reflective and hopeful song, reaching #1 on Billboard’s US Dance Club Songs chart, peaking inside the top 25 on Billboard Hot 100 and landing at #11 on the critics’ picks for Billboard’s 100 Best Pop Songs of 2016. It won Song of the Year and Best Video at the 2016 ARIA Awards. Troye was named Breakthrough Songwriter at the 2017 APRA Music Awards, an honour Alex received in 2016.

The song’s accreditations include: Australia - Platinum; New Zealand – Platinum; UK – silver; Ireland – triple platinum; US – double platinum.

Both are based in Los Angeles these days, but made a special effort to accept the honour in person during trips home to Australia.

“This song was the one that absolutely changed my life,” Troye said in his speech to APRA AMCOS staff and guests gathered from his label EMI Music Australia and his publisher Universal Music Publishing Group Australia and New Zealand.

“I couldn’t have done anything without a large group of people supporting me,” Alex said in a thank you to those in attendance including her family and the team from Sony/ATV Music Publishing Australia.

“This award was created because a billion streams is an enormous achievement, an important industry milestone, and one very deserving of acknowledgement in today’s globally competitive music landscape. Co-writing is an enormous opportunity for our members, and can open up many doors internationally for Australasian songwriters,” said Dean.

Troye and Alex are examples of that. Troye has recently collaborated with Lauv on the smash hit 'i’m so tired…' Hope’s past year included producing Tegan & Sara’s album Hey, I’m Just Like You and songwriting credits with Alanis Morrisette, David Guetta and Ruel.

Their music publishers were presented an award as well, with Arwen Hunt, Vice President, Creative/A&R at UMPG Australia & New Zealand and Sony/ATV Australia's Head of A&R Maree Hamblion, respectively, accepting.

The two songwriters join an ever-growing list of recipients: Nat Dunn (for MARSHMELLO’S ‘Friends’), Dean Lewis (for ‘Be Alright’), Flume (for ‘Never Be Like You’), Jake Mason, Ivan Khatchoyan, and Lance Ferguson (for Cookin’ On 3 Burners ‘This Girl’) and Starley and P-Money (for ‘Call On Me’), with more songwriters soon to be added.

The 1,000,000,000 List takes into account streaming numbers from major services Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube. It is the first award of its kind to recognise a songwriter’s achievement.
