Vale Glenn A Baker
We were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of renowned music journalist, broadcaster, historian and author Glenn A Baker.
Baker was one of Australia's most recognisable and influential music commentators, dedicating more than five decades to documenting, celebrating and championing popular music and its creators.
Known for his encyclopedic knowledge of music history and his trademark fez, Baker became a household name through his work across radio, TV, publishing and live events. He wrote for more than 200 publications throughout his career, authored at least 16 books, penned liner notes for hundreds of album releases and spent more than two decades as editor of the Australian edition of Billboard magazine.
His career began in the mid-1970s, contributing to the research project that led to the establishment of 2JJ, now triple j, before embarking on a broadcasting career that spanned radio and television. He later managed pioneering Australian rock and roll revival band Ol'55 and co-founded respected independent label Raven Records in 1979.
A member of APRA AMCOS since 1976, Baker had a long-standing relationship with the organisation, presenting at several award events in addition to being an avid supporter of countless Australian songwriters and artists throughout his career.
