Emerging Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander music makers are invited to apply for NATSIMO Mentorship in 2025.

In 2025, the NATSIMO is offering two separate, one-of-a-kind mentorship opportunities:

  • a Screen Composer Mentorship, and;
  • a new Producer/Engineer Mentorship.

Both programs have been designed to develop industry standard skills for the successful participants through flexible learning models and practical engagement.

The mentorships will begin in March 2025, with the Screen Composition Mentorship running until May (3-month period) and the Production/Engineering Mentorship until April (6-week period).

Applications for the mentorships are open now until 11:59pm AEDT Friday 29 November

NATSIMO Screen Composer Mentorship

MENTORSHIP: Work one-on-one with screen composer mentor Jessica Wells from Jigsaw Music over a 3-month period to develop a soundtrack for a short film. During this time you'll also learn the foundations of scoring and orchestration. Additionally, you'll work with a guest mentor who will offer additional advice and create industry-style feedback sessions.

ACTIVITY: At the beginning of the program the participant will be provided with a short film in which they are required to create a musical score. At the end of the three-month immersion, the created music will be arranged, recorded and set to the short film to be used in their own personal portfolio.

The mentorship is funded by APRA AMCOS with support from Jigsaw Music and Trackdown Studios.

You'll also be paired with musical collaborators chosen by the mentor to record their music and work with them to achieve their desired sounds.

ACTIVITY: Following the 6-week learning intensive, the recipient will be paired with musical collaborators chosen by the mentor to record their music and help them achieve desired sounds in a formal studio setting.
