The National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Music Office (NATSIMO) kicked off its three-day signature in-person songwriting camp RESONATE, yesterday at Studios 301 in Sydney. RESONATE brings together top Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander songwriters, music producers and artists from across the country to collaborate on writing and recording new music.

A dynamic line-up of talent spanning musical theatre to singer-songwriter to pop, hip-hop and indie, will be assigned to working groups each day by RESONATE's curator François Tétaz, the Grammy Award-winning producer and songwriter. The sessions will be faciliated by producer, engineer, and mixer Antonia Gauci.

Hard at work in the studio are the following: composer and songwriter Brendon Boney (The Magpie Swoop, Microwave Jenny); Candice Lorrae of pop duo The Merindas; up-and-coming talents Jem Cassar-Daley and Cloe Terare; beat creator Jarred Wall, who performs as Boox Kid; producer/writer/composer Blake Rhodes (Mr Rhodes); singer-songwriter and stage and screen performer Bojesse Pigram; and singer, songwriter and actor Marcus Corowa, who has performed in stage productions of Bran Nue Dae, The Secret River and more.

RESONATE is now in its second year with Expressions of Interest coming in high numbers from songwriter members across the nation.

"I'm so grateful to have these eight uniquely talented individuals here for RESONATE. The NATSIMO's aim for the program is to foster an inspiring and inclusive studio environment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander APRA AMCOS members to be immersed in the process of co-writing and collaboration. We want to build community across our membership to create networks and pathways for our writers living outside the east coast bubble while also ensuring that our writers are match fit once they hit the competitive industry facilitated program,” said Leah Flanagan, NATSIMO Director.
