The Regional Sessions is set to return to five regional New South Wales locations in February 2025, giving songwriters the opportunity to connect with their local community and learn from top Australian music creators.

Run by music rights management organisation, APRA AMCOS, with support from the NSW Government through Sound NSW, the one-day events will bring keynote speakers, workshops, panel discussions, live performances and networking opportunities to beginner, emerging and mid-career songwriters, producers and composers in each area.

The 2025 dates and locations are:

  • Tuesday 18 February – Lismore
  • Thursday 20 February – Bellingen
  • Saturday 22 February – Newcastle
  • Tuesday 25 February – Orange
  • Thursday 27 February – Albury

Speakers already confirmed to attend include Becca Hatch, Ben Lee, Dallas Frasca, Darren Middleton (Powderfinger), Dobby, Jem Cassar-Daley, L-FRESH the LION, KLP, Mo’Ju and more to be announced soon.

Tickets are $45 for APRA AMCOS members/$60 for non-members, with members’ limited $35 early bird tickets on sale now until 21 January 2025. The price includes the fully catered day and post-event networking, and spots are limited to just 50 attendees.

Chris O’Neill, Director of Creative Programs at APRA AMCOS, explains: “This is our fourth year of running The Regional Sessions and we’re thrilled to be able to bring this important program back to regional New South Wales.

“The Sessions give each local music community a unique opportunity to connect with each other and gain valuable skills from top songwriters, composers and producers in their hometown without having to travel to a big city for the experience.”

Emily Collins, Head of Sound NSW, adds: “Regional music and artists are vital to a vibrant NSW music scene. We’re proud to support APRA AMCOS to deliver this great program and can’t wait to see the wonderful array of regional songwriters and performers find new audiences both in NSW and further afield.”

The Regional Sessions was first introduced in New South Wales in 2021 as a way to support and reconnect local music creators following the pandemic. It has since run in Victoria in 2022 and Western Australia in 2023.

Several previous attendees have had commercial success since taking part in the program, including NSW participant Loren Ryan, who went on to collaborate on new music with mentor, Urthboy.

L-FRESH the LION was a mentor in the 2021 NSW Sessions and will be returning in 2025. He adds: “We have so much talent across the regions in this country. The sad reality is that artists from regional areas often face additional barriers to try and make it in the music industry due to costs of travel and a lack of opportunities. It’s great to see APRA AMCOS return with NSW Regional Sessions to try and bridge the gap.”
