High Score: Composition and Sound Art for Games is back in 2022! The hybrid in-person and livestreamed conference will be filled with keynotes, panels, feedback sessions and more across 1-2 October as part of Melbourne International Games Week.
High Score explores the important role that music and audio play in game design and experience. Anyone who would like to learn more about game audio and composition is welcome. All skill levels welcome.

This year’s theme is “Building from the Ground Up” focusing on strengthening all parts of the Australian game audio industry; from emerging to established, grass root indies to AAA, to ensure that together we can reach out loftiest goals. Reaching the highest peaks requires solid foundations and the support from every part of the community.
With support from Creative Victoria, High Score is expanding its programming beyond the flagship conference to include a SongHubs intensive residency, two Co-Op composing workshops and the SoundCheck video interview series.
High Score is presented by APRA AMCOS, in partnership with the Victorian Government through Creative Victoria, as part of Melbourne International Games Week.

Arts Law is holding a day of free legal chats exclusively for High Score attendees. You'll have the opportunity to ask a lawyer any questions you've ever wanted to know about your artistic practice, the law and how to safeguard your arts business and set yourself up for success.
These chats are happening on the first day of High Score - Saturday 1 October. Free 30-minute chats available between 12pm-5pm.

Aaron has been working in the international media scene for over 15 years as a composer, sound designer, music editor & audio programmer. He now brings those different perspectives together as Product Manager for FMOD.
Involved in all kinds of things to do with sound, Allison works in lots of areas across the audio landscape: She is a composer, audio engineer, live coder, sound designer for games, and a very average drummer.
Originally a classical pianist, she taught herself electronic production, finding a deep love for timbre and field recordings.
She is very into bird calls, comics, and designing navigable virtual spaces for vision impaired players.
Angela Little is a Sydney-based screen composer, whose first big break was scoring and singing on Baz Luhrmann’s Australia. She completed her Master of Music in Screen Scoring at USC and was mentored by composer Thomas Newman. Recent projects include China’s highest-grossing mobile game, Honor of Kings 2.0, which she won a 2020 G.A.N.G (Game Audio Network Guild) Award; and Australian dramas Never Too Late, Streamline and A Stitch in Time. Angela won a 2019 APRA Screen Music Award for For The Girlin the Coffee Shop and was nominated in 2021 for Netflix series Dive Club.
Angharad 'Rad' Yeo is an award-winning television presenter, video game critic, technology journalist and one of the hosts of technology podcast Queens of the Drone Age. She is also a host of ABC ME's Good Game Spawn Point, and Double J's Weekends. Her other credits include ABC Science's Elevator Pitch and Rad Experiments, and ABC Listen's How Games Play Us.
Audio designer for Outerloop Games and the upcoming Thirsty Suitors! on all consoles. Australian game industry veteran of 15 years, has worked with developers such as Defiant, Krome Studios, Bubblegum Interactive, and Sega on titles such as Hand of Fate 1 and 2, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, Castle of Illusion Remake Starring Mickey Mouse, and Ty the Tasmanian Tiger 3 among others.
Belinda is a music composer who specialises in composing for games. Additionally, Belinda previously worked at Instyle Music (a music library providing music for Film, Television, and media) where she was involved in the music review and submission process.
Caleb is a young freelance artist who has been contributing to community video game/mod projects for about 5 years, starting out solely as a voice actor and expanding their skillset into sound design, music and more as the years have gone by.
Cameron is the Art Music Lead at APRA AMCOS and has been the curator (and now Program Manager) of High Score since 2018. In his work for APRA AMCOS, he is passionate about championing sustainable careers, development opportunities, and supporting the diverse and important art music community across Australia.
Outside of APRA AMCOS, Cameron is a composer whose music incorporates game design philosophy and mechanics, runs hybrid-art production company Kammerklang, and curates the Australian Art Music playlist on Spotify and Limelight.
Cedar is an Audio Lead, Composer and Sound Designer with 16 years in the industry. Past projects include Phantom Abyss, Fruit Ninja, Jetpack Joyride, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed and Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen. Beginning his career at Krome Studios, Cedar moved on to leading the audio team at Halfbrick before recently starting a new and exciting chapter at The Eccentric Ape. This varied background has resulted in a ‘generalist’ approach to game audio, doing a bit of everything and loving every minute of it!
Chloe Turner is a grants manager at Creative Victoria, specifically working on contemporary music programs. Previous to this, she has worked for Creative Partnerships Australia and Music Victoria, and has been involved in PBS FM, LISTEN, and has run two small independent record labels. She is also a musician and textile artist.
Christoph Jakob is a German composer most known for his work on the award-winning twin-stick roguelite Revita. He is also sound designer, multi-instrumentalist and a video game enthusiast himself.
Danna is a video game music composer currently making music for David Chen's Spiritwell and Pink Clouds' Postage Game. She also writes songs under the pseudonym "Pekoe", and specialises in arranging music for symphony orchestra, chamber and mixed ensembles, voice, and piano.
Darren Korb is the award-winning composer and musician behind the scores for Bastion, Transistor, Pyre, and Hades. As Audio Director at Supergiant Games, Darren is responsible for all of the music, sound effects, and voiceover recording at the studio. He also voices Zagreus and Skelly in Supergiant's latest game, Hades.
Eve Klein is an award-winning composer, vocalist, sound artist and academic designing large-scale, immersive musical experiences for festivals. Eve's work has been featured at New York University, Salisbury Cathedral and MONA. As Lead Composer for Textile Audio, Eve recently launched City Symphony, an interactive AR music experience overlaying Brisbane CBD.
Hew Wagner is a Melbourne based media composer who specialises in orchestral music. Game scores include Riftbound and The Companion. Short films and promos include Anduin Vs. Valeera (Promo video for Hearthsone and Blizzard ANZ, in collaboration with Christopher Larkin), Russo (dir. Kirtan Singh) and A Room for One (dir. Charlie McGowan).
Jacob Leaney is a music artist ('Monster Mansion') and the Creative Director of Things For Humans - a pop music video game studio. Leaney bridges the gap between pop songs and video games by developing games that incorporate his music releases - most recently the award-winning title 'Video World' (2021, PC & Nintendo Switch).
Jasmine Cooper is a multi-media composer based in the United States. Her work can be found in games like Ciel Fledge, an apocalyptic daughter raising simulator, Mixolumia, a block-breaking audio shifting puzzler, and works in development like the monster battler Kindred Fates and the mega-man zero inspired GIGABUSTER.
Jason is a writer, programmer, designer, and producer on Wayward Strand. He worked at League of Geeks as lead developer on Armello, Wicked Witch Software as lead programmer/designer on Catapult King, and created the experimental Need 4e+9 Speed along with Kalonica Quigley. His passions are experimental gameplay, personal expression, and interactive storytelling.
Jeff van Dyck is a three-time BAFTA award winning Composer, Sound Designer and Audio Director, known for his emotive scores and immersive audio design in videogames over the last three decades. Jeff’s early work comprised a string of AAA game franchises including EA’s FIFA, NHL and Need for Speed series. He moved into more cinematic and orchestral style of composing through a long involvement with the critically acclaimed Total War franchise. More recently, Jeff’s work can be heard across a range of independent development including Assault Android Cactus, Hand of Fate II, Forts, Paint the Town Red, Submerged, and Unpacking.
Jini Maxwell is a curator and videogame writer based in Melbourne. Jini currently works as a curator at ACMI, Australia’s museum of screen culture. In addition to working on exhibitions within ACMI, Jini is a co-organiser of ACMI's screen industry work-in-progress night, and hosts ACMI's Women and Non-Binary Gamer's Club.
Josie Brechner is a composer, sound designer, and musician from Brooklyn, NY. She has found a niche making emotionally rich sound worlds for games like EXTREME MEATPUNKS FOREVER, Blossom Tales 1 & 2, Mixolumia, Best Friend Forever, Freshly Frosted, and more. She has also toured the US and performed internationally as Visager and music from Josie’s three open-source Songs from an Unmade World albums has been used in hundreds of projects around the world.
Julian ‘Zorsy’ Sanchez, is a Sydney based musician who combines his love for jazz, hip hop and video games to create nostalgic head bops which can be heard from the band ‘The Consouls’ as well as Steven Universe. He is currently working on an upcoming video game ‘Bits and Bops’ by Tempo Lab Games whilst performing across multiple venues in Sydney and Melbourne.
Australian Game Developer Award winner Julian is bursting with creativity. Doctors say it’s nothing to worry about. He shipped his first console game before leaving university and is based in Melbourne, Australia. He focuses on Creative direction and business development. His goal in life is to draw faces on anything he can find.
Lisy Kane is a videogames producer and co-founder of social good startup, Girl Geek Academy. She is currently a producer for Kepler Interactive, a new global co-owned publisher as well as advisor and producer for the Kowloon Nights games fund. Before this she formed her production career at League of Geeks (creators of Armello and two new IP) with her last role being Production Director which saw her shaping the production department and broader team. During her formative years in Brisbane, she also played in indie band Epithets who toured Australia and is also a classically trained violinist.
As Senior Associate, Music Licensing at Electronic Arts (EA), Lori Cromwell-Charron oversees licensing for top franchises that include F1 and Madden NFL. Prior to EA, Lori was responsible for music licensing and supervision at Ubisoft for such brands as Just Dance, The Crew, and Watch Dogs, as well as trailers and worldwide marketing campaigns for Assassin’s Creed Origins, STEEP, Far Cry 5, For Honor and Rainbow Six Siege. In addition to video games, Lori has worked in Fundraising and Development at the Lyon National Opera in Lyon, France, and served as Manager, Music Licensing at VP Records – the largest independent music label specializing in Reggae and Caribbean Music – where she secured placements in socially impactful projects like Small Axe and opened the catalog to new opportunities in competitive gaming via a partnership with Jamaica eSports Initiative.
Maize Wallin Victorian College of the Arts (BFA) educated, Melbourne based composer, sound designer, and audio programmer working across indie games and big budget AAA.
Their focus is in 3D spatialised audio, and dynamic music, using cutting edge techniques to create unique outcomes. Maize lectures consults in Australia and around the world on these topics, and is strongly engaged in the game development community, and in activism and representation within it.
Scoring and producing music for Cult Of the Lamb. Background in pop as one half of Willow Beats and solo project River Boy. Toured Australia multiple times and played festivals such as Splendour in the Grass and Falls Festival. Played support for Tash Sultana, Flume, Alison Wonderland and more.
Nathan Cummins is an award-winning composer, orchestrator, conductor, and performer, based in Adelaide, South Australia. He specialises in crafted orchestration for video games, film, and television with a focus on live and vibrant textures across multiple genres and mediums. His orchestrations and engravings have been used in concerts and recording sessions throughout the world including for Awoken composed by Christopher Larkin and Submerged: Hidden Depths composed by Jeff van Dyck. His original works have been performed by ensembles including the Australian String Quartet, the Elder Conservatorium Wind Orchestra, and the Gold Coast Philharmonic Orchestra.
Neha (She/Her) is a freelance composer and sound designer. She is currently working on multiple titles such as: Venba (SFX), MiniMaker (Music&SFX), Eternights (SFX) Lost Your Marbles (Music&SFX)) and some unannounced projects. More importantly however, Neha is a self proclaimed Crash Team Racing child prodigy and pun enthusiast.
Oscar has worked at APRA AMCOS for the past 8 years primarily in the media and digital spheres. His role is to ensure that online music users are fully licensed and aware of their obligations to rights holders. Oscar has been a regular guest of talks and panels regarding the use of music online, particularly during the pandemic with a focus on the industry pivot to online delivery. Oscar's current focus is on emerging technology including augmented reality, web3 and the close ties between music and gaming.
Bec is a Unity Generalist and Game Developer from Melbourne, Australia. They’ve worked on a range of projects, from independent games and art pieces, to research projects around the world of games. Bec’s favourite things to make, and play, are smaller experimental projects that leave a big impact on the player.
Rich Vreeland ties the name Disasterpeace to the things he sends into the sonic ether. Disasterpeace has over 50 albums to its credit, in addition to having designed, scored and programmed sound and music related things in a number of mediums including games, film, and beyond.
Roxanne Lorenz is a Senior Solicitor at Arts Law, Australia’s community legal centre for artists and arts organisations. Prior to joining the legal world, she worked behind-the-scenes at several leading arts and entertainment organisations. Roxanne advises creators on legal issues including intellectual property, contract negotiations and resolving disputes.
Scott Boyd is a Melbourne based Sound Designer and Musician/Songwriter. He has a wide variety of experience working across multiple video game titles and studios, ranging in size from indie to AAA. Currently he is working alongside Eleventh Hour Games on their flagship ARPG title 'Last Epoch'.
Taana is a third year PhD candidate undertaking research at The University of Queensland, specialising in interactive audio, virtual reality, augmented reality, and opera composition, under the supervision of interactive audio expert’s Dr Eve Klein and Dr Fred Fialho Leandro Alves Teixeira. Artemis VR took out the Best in Queensland Award at the QLDXRFestival 2022.
Taliesin is a game developer based in Wales and a graduate from the University of South Wales who has worked as a sound designer for several video games and award-winning mods, such as Raising The Bar: Redux, Open Fortress, and Fallout: Cascadia.
With over 70 credits in multimedia compositions, Tamara has worked has created music and sounds for films (on Amazon Prime), TV (The Block), Games (Legally Blonde), as well as dance and other installations. Tamara works towards equality in the industry and strives for a more equitable and supportive music, sound and arts industry.
