Kevin Parker, King Stingray, Missy Higgins, Tones And I, and Troye Sivan among the songwriters leading the charge with multiple nominations
20 first time nominees including 3%, Dallas Frasca, Emily Wurramara, Grace Cummings, Kita Alexander and Speed
The winners plus the International Recognition Award, Licensee of the Year, Most Performed Australian Work Overseas and Songwriter of the Year at the awards ceremony on Wednesday 30 April
The nominees for the 2025 APRA Music Awards have been announced, a celebration of Australia's finest songwriters, each vying for one of the year's most prestigious honours.
Leading with four nominations is previous Peer-Voted APRA Song of the Year winner, Styalz Fuego, for Troye Sivan’s “Got Me Started” and Jessica Mauboy feat. Jason Derulo’s smash hit “Give You Love”, which are both up for Most Performed Australian Work and Most Performed Pop Work.
Sivan has also picked up three nominations for “Got Me Started” and Peer-Voted APRA Song of the Year finalist, “One of Your Girls”, both co-written with US songwriter Leland.
Returning this year with three nominations is multi-award winner Kevin Parker for his work with global superstar Dua Lipa on “Houdini” (Most Performed Australian Work and Most Performed Pop Work) and Don Toliver’s “Bandit”, which is up for Most Performed Hip Hop/Rap Work and samples Tame Impala’s hit “One More Hour”.
Songwriting powerhouses Missy Higgins and Tones And I have both scored two nominations, Higgins for “The Second Act” for Most Performed Alternative Work and Peer-Voted APRA Song of the Year, and Tones And I for “Dreaming”, which is up for Most Performed Australian Work and Most Performed Pop Work.
Also picking up two nods is Dom Dolla for “Saving Up” (Most Performed Australian Work and Most Performed Dance/Electronic Work), Luke Steele and Nick Littlemore for their work with PNAU and Empire of the Sun for “AEIOU” and “Changes” (Most Performed Dance/Electronic Work), and King Stingray for “Through The Trees” (Most Performed Rock Work and Peer-Voted APRA Song of the Year).
The two remaining Peer-Voted APRA Song of the Year shortlisted songs in the final five are the provocative “U Should Not Be Doing That” by Amyl and The Sniffers and the powerful “Won’t Stop” by 3% feat. Jessica Mauboy, co-written with Baker Boy, MUKI and One Above.
This year’s Emerging Songwriter of the Year nominees are brimming with talent, from the sublime blues and roots sounds of Emily Wurramara to the pack-a-punch R&B of Miss Kaninna. Both are first-time APRA Music Award nominees, along with the magnetic Grace Cummings and rising star, Jem Cassar-Daley. The seemingly unstoppable Royel Otis round out the final five.
An abundance of other first-time nominees making a splash this year include 3%, ChillinIT, Coterie, Dallas Frasca, DON WEST, Joan & The Giants, Kaiit, Kita Alexander, Lithe, Make Them Suffer, Northlane, South Summit, Speed, Sweet Talk, Tobiahs, Windwaker and Zac & George.
The Most Performed International Work nominees for 2025 are Benson Boone, Jack Harlow, Sabrina Carpenter, Shaboozey and Tate McRae.
The APRA Music Awards celebrate excellence in contemporary music, honouring songwriters and publishers who have achieved artistic excellence and outstanding success in their fields.
The recipient of the prestigious Ted Albert Award for Outstanding Services to Australian Music will be announced on Tuesday 15 April, followed by the winners of all nominated categories, plus the International Recognition Award, Licensee of the Year, Most Performed Australian Work Overseas and Songwriter of the Year at the awards ceremony at Melbourne Town Hall on Wednesday 30 April.
