SongMakers Academy, a 3-day songwriting intensive in NSW and Victoria, open for applications
Back for a 3rd year in Victoria, launches inaugural program in NSW
Previous SongMakers participants (aged 16-19) from both states encouraged to apply
Applications are open for 2026's SongMakers Academy: a free, three-day songwriting intensive in both Melbourne and Sydney during the spring school holidays.
16 talented young songwriters from Victoria and 12 from NSW will have the opportunity to write, produce and record three original songs at professional recording studios.
The Melbourne program will run 29 September – 1 October, returning again to Melbourne’s inner north: Rolling Stock Recording Rooms, Carriage Studio and Red Door Sounds.
The Sydney program will run 6-8 October at Forbes Street Studios in Woolloomooloo.
The program fosters the skills of creative collaboration and problem-solving, while familiarising participants with the dynamics of professional recording studios. Any 16 to 19-year-old who participated in a NSW or Victorian SongMakers school or holiday program over 2025 or 2026 is encouraged to apply. Participants will be selected based on their enthusiasm to develop new skills and knowledge.
Take note regional songwriters: Successful applicants from the regions will have travel and acommoodation costs covered for themselves and a guardian (if under 18) for all three days.

Eligibility
You are eligible to apply if:
- If you took part in a Victorian or NSW SongMakers workshop in 2025 or 2026
- 16 – 19 years old
- Have not participated in a previous SongMakers Academy
