Our members join the King's Birthday Honours List 2026
The 2026 King's Birthday Honours List recognised three APRA AMCOS members for their services to the arts.
Simon Tedeschi has been appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for ‘significant service to music as a concert pianist.’
Tedeschi started music as a child prodigy – performing at the Sydney Opera House at the age of 9. His self-titled debut album was nominated at the 2000 ARIA Music Awards for Best Classical Album. In 2001 he was a Young Australian of the Year finalist.
James Valentine has also been posthumously awarded a Member of the Order of Australia “for significant service to the media as a radio presenter and television host, to music, and to children's literature.”
Valentine hosted ABC Sydney Afternoons radio talkback show for more than 20 years. Before broadcasting, Valentine studied classical saxophone, toured, hosted and performed in his ‘Upbeat Revue’ live shows.
Valentine’s appointment to the Order was expedited, where on 18 April the Governor General hosted a ceremony at Admiralty House, days before he passed away.
William (Bill) ‘Swampy’ Marsh has been awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for ‘service to literature as a writer.’
Marsh is known as an author, songwriter, storyteller and performer. Early in his career, Marsh wrote radio skits for Adelaide 5MMM's Four Course Breakfast Show, performed his songs in folk clubs and schools, and conducted writing workshops.
Marsh' musical works span from anti-littering jingles, to tributes to the Royal Flying Docotor Service, Murray River paddle steamers, and stories from the Australian bush.
He has performed on the Ghan as part of Great Southern Rail's ANZAC Tribute Journey and at the Transport Hall of Fame gala dinner at Alice Springs with Slim Dusty.
Heartfelt congratulations to all.
