A collaborative initiative of Music Australia and the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Music Office (NATSIMO)
12 x $20,000 grants available
The National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Music Office (NATSIMO), with funding from Music Australia, has announced the first series of LIFECYCLE Touring Grants, which will provide 12 grants of $20,000 for touring artists.
The grants are designed to support national touring activities for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander music creators, supporting growth and fostering a vibrant, visible and inclusive music landscape.
All Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander music creators are invited to apply, and eligibility is not restricted to members of APRA AMCOS.
These grants are the latest in the LIFECYCLE portfolio, which also includes grants for marketing and recording. They have so far provided $670,000 of funding and opportunities for the Indigenous music community, which goes a long way to making songwriting, recording, marketing and touring possible in this challenging economic climate.
Leah Flanagan, Director of NATSIMO, explains: “Our community has some of the most exciting live talent touring on the world circuit, which is a huge feat considering how difficult it is to tour and build audiences domestically, particularly in a post-COVID environment.
“These grants are designed to support our artists looking to tour a new project, to engage and build new audiences through a series of live performances. Once again, thank you to Music Australia for funding these career-changing opportunities.”
Applications are open now until 11:59 PM (AEDT) Sunday 22 December 2024 with the grants available to cover activity undertaken and completed between 1 March 2025 and 1 February 2026. Applicants and recipients of previous LIFECYCLE Grants are also welcome to apply.

Additionally, Centrelink’s Financial Information Service (FIS) is an education and information service available to everyone in the community and may be of benefit to applicants who also receive assistance through the social security system. To contact FIS, phone 13 23 00.
Can this grant be auspiced by another organisation or individual?
No, the grant funds must be received by the applicant. This aims to encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander members to develop skills in managing their own businesses. Please note, these services refer to assistance in completing the application and does not include payment or financial assistance or considerations. For more information, please contact NATSIMO directly at [email protected].

NATSIMO cannot provide advice on appropriate fees for project collaborators. We recommend seeking quotes from various sources and making informed decisions based on those quotes.

No, the music activity must be in support of music you produce.
Can funds be used to pay project collaborators based overseas?
Yes, but your application must provide sufficient information to justify all international expenses to the assessors.
Can I include in-kind support for the project in my budget?
Yes. In-kind support refers to resources, goods and services (for example, use of a venue, materials and people’s time) provided by yourself or others either free of charge or below market value. Detailing in-kind costs in the budget is important as it gives assessors a full understanding of the viability of your project and levels of support you are receiving.
