TOP 25 CONTENDERS FOR THE 2024 PEER-VOTED APRA SONG OF THE YEAR!
Shortlist includes includes first-time honourees G Flip, Troye Sivan, Nat Dunn and Tex Perkins along with songwriting icons Sia, Paul Kelly, Kylie Minogue, Matt Corby and Jen Cloher.
The winner will be announced at the 2024 APRA Music Awards on 1 May on Gadigal land at ICC.
In what is possibly the most diverse and exciting list yet, APRA AMCOS is pleased to announce the Top 25 compositions that APRA members have selected to be in the running for the Peer-Voted APRA Song of the Year.
Covering multiple genres, the list features first-time appearances from songwriters Romy Vager (RVG), Shannon Busch, Stephen Mowat, Gretta Ray, Chris Collins and Rudy Sandapa as well as Canberra rock band Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers. Making their shortlist debut is Voyager with their synth-rock banger Promise, Australia’s entry for the 2023 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest.
2024 marks G Flip’s first appearance in the Peer-Voted Song of the Year shortlist (with co-writer Aidan Hogg), appearing twice off the back of a record seven songs in the annual triple j Hottest 100 including the #2 spot for The Worst Person Alive and Be Your Man (#22). Genesis Owusu also racks up two entries with Get Inspired and Leaving the Light.
APRA members have also selected songs by writers Kylie Minogue, Sia, Polaris, Jen Cloher, Angie McMahon, King Stingray, Dan Sultan, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, Sarah Aarons (co-writing Budjerah’s Therapy), Styalz Fuego, Amy Shark, Matt Corby, The Teskey Brothers and Tex Perkins. Kevin Parker appears, along with Damon Albarn, for New Gold (Gorillaz ft. Tame Impala & Bootie Brown). Paul Kelly (with The Triffids’ late frontman David McComb) has secured a spot in the Top 25 for If Not Now, a song he wrote in support of a Yes vote for The Voice referendum campaign.
The APRA Music Awards celebrate excellence in contemporary music, honouring songwriters and publishers that have achieved artistic excellence and outstanding success in their fields. The final five nominees across all 2024 APRA Music Awards categories will be revealed on Thursday 4 April, with winners announced when the awards ceremony returns to ICC Sydney, Gadigal land on Wednesday 1 May.
